Empanadas are a special kind of treat. They’re made with a unique dough, which is then stuffed with savory fillings like ground beef and olives. As special as it is, it is important that you know what to serve with empanadas and here you can get to know some.

What to serve with empanadas?
You can serve empanadas with anything from tacos to quesadillas, but our favorite is simply a side of guacamole. The traditional accompaniment to the Colombian dish is made by mashing avocado with lime juice and a pinch of salt.
It’s delicious on its own, but it also adds a bright note to the savory, meaty filling in an empanada. You could also serve your guests their own mini-empanadas with some cheese or sour cream if you like. However, there is more to what you can serve empanadas, and here are some great suggestions for you.
1. Tomato salsa
If you’re looking for a salsa to serve with your empanadas, consider making tomato salsa. It’s simple, easy to make, and super tasty.
First of all, you’ll need some tomatoes. You can use any type of tomato that you want and just make sure it’s ripe and still good to use. If you have a garden, try using tomatoes from your garden. If not, go buy some at the store.
Next, chop up the tomatoes into small pieces (about the size of a cherry). Add them to a blender or food processor and blend until they are smooth and homogeneous.
You can add as much or as little liquid as you need; if you’re making an empanada with ground beef or chicken, then add olive oil or water until the salsa reaches your desired consistency.
If you’re not using meat in an empanada (or if you are using meat), then just leave it at room temperature so that it can meld together with the other ingredients and form itself into a sauce. You can go ahead and use your sauce with your empanadas.
2. Charro beans
Charro beans are a delicious and filling side dish to serve with empanadas. They’re also great cold, as a dip for tortilla chips, or even as a side salad with some cheese on top.
They’re simply made by soaking dried pinto beans overnight and then boiling them until tender. They’re a little thicker than regular refried beans and make a great contrast to the crispiness of the empanadas. You can also serve them with rice or corn tortillas, but we think they’re best off on their own.
3. Arugula Salad
The Arugula Salad is a great combination of flavors, and it’s super easy to make. It’s packed with fresh arugula, avocado, sweet red onion, and a simple dressing made with olive oil, lemon juice, and honey.

11. Cheese sauce

12. Sauteed mushroom
There are so many great ways to serve empanadas, but when it comes to sauteing them, this is my favorite. First, you can use any mushrooms you want. I like the earthy flavor of button mushrooms, but shiitakes or crimini would also be delicious.
Saute the mushrooms in a little olive oil until they are soft and golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Then remove them from the pan and set them aside on a plate lined with paper towels until cool enough to handle.
13. Grilled veggies
These are some of the most versatile vegetables you can use to make empanadas. We love a good grilled veggie, but if you want to get creative, try grilling a variety of veggies.
Grilled asparagus is a great option, but we also think that sliced mushrooms and onions are great options. You can even try grilling string beans or broccoli. Just be sure to cook them until they’re tender so they don’t get mushy when you cook them in your empanada.
Asparagus is a perfect fit for empanadas, as it’s light and fresh, pairs well with just about any flavor, and is easy to cook in a pan or skillet.
You can serve it with your empanadas as a side dish, or you can toss some into the filling itself. Either way, it’ll be delicious.
15. Cream cheese
There are a lot of different things to serve with empanadas. Cream cheese has a nice tang to it that complements the savory filling, and is also sweet enough to cut through the heaviness of any other flavors in the dish.
If you’re serving more than one kind of ingredient, cream cheese is a good choice because it can round out your flavors nicely without overpowering them.
What kind of salad goes with empanadas?

Empanada filling ideas
Here are some of our favorite empanada-filling ideas. You can use any combination or all of these, depending on what you have on hand.
Chicken and veggies:
Prepare your favorite chicken recipe and shred it. Mix in a little bit of shredded cheese and some cooked vegetables such as mushrooms or peppers.
Combine ground beef with garlic, onions, cumin, and oregano or whatever seasonings you like. To make the perfect filling ingredient for your empanadas. Serve with salsa or sour cream.
Use shredded cheese for an easy option for a cheese-based filling! You can also use cream cheese if you want to make it extra decadent (but don’t forget the guacamole).
Use refried beans as your base ingredient instead of ground beef! Just add them to your favorite chili recipe and then top them with cheese before cooking them into your homemade tortillas.
Is empanadas Mexican or Puerto Rican?
Empanadas are both Mexican and Puerto Rican. The word “empanada” comes from the Spanish term for “batter,” which is a type of pie. While it may be true that empanadas are traditionally made with meat and potatoes, they can also be made with other fillings, such as chicken or cheese.
Is it better to fry or bake empanadas?

What oil do you fry empanadas in?
